12 Weeks Today

How your baby's growing:
The most dramatic development this week: reflexes. Your baby's fingers will soon begin to open and close, his toes will curl, his eye muscles will clench, and his mouth will make sucking movements. In fact, if you prod your abdomen, your baby will squirm in response, although you won't be able to feel it. His intestines, which have grown so fast that they protrude into the umbilical cord, will start to move into his abdominal cavity about now, and his kidneys will begin excreting urine into his bladder.

Meanwhile, nerve cells are multiplying rapidly, and in your baby's brain, synapses are forming furiously. His face looks unquestionably human: His eyes have moved from the sides to the front of his head, and his ears are right where they should be. From crown to rump, your baby-to-be is just over 2 inches long (about the size of a lime) and weighs half an ounce.

See what your baby looks like this week. (Or see what fraternal twins look like in the womb this week.)

Note: Every baby develops a little differently, even in the womb. Our information is designed to give you a general idea of your baby's development.

How your life's changing:
Your uterus has grown to the point where your healthcare provider can now feel the top of it (the fundus) low in your abdomen, just above your pubic bone. You may already be into maternity clothes, especially if this isn't your first pregnancy. If you're still fairly small and not yet ready for maternity clothes, you've no doubt noticed that your waist is thickening and that you're more comfortable in loose, less restrictive clothing.

You may begin to feel heartburn (also called acid indigestion), a burning sensation that often extends from the bottom of your breastbone to your lower throat. Many women get heartburn for the first time during pregnancy, and those who've previously had bouts of heartburn may find that it gets worse. During pregnancy, the placenta produces a lot of the hormone progesterone, which relaxes the valve that separates the esophagus from the stomach. Particularly when you're lying down, gastric acid can seep back up the pipe, which causes the uncomfortable burning sensation. For many women the problem doesn't begin (or get worse) until later in pregnancy, when your growing uterus starts to push up on your stomach. The discomfort may range from mildly annoying to intense and distracting.

How far along: 12 weeks

Total weight gain/loss: As of Saturday down .8 pounds.

Sleep: I thought I was over the tired stage but I guess not. Friday I slept for 12 hours woke up Saturday, was up for a bit then took a 2 hour nap on the couch. I guess going back to school is making me sleepy!

Best moment this week: I think I felt a lump for the first time in my lower stomach when I was laying down in bed 2 days ago. That was pretty cool.

Movement: Nope

Food cravings: Loving Pringles!

Food aversions: I tried making a roasted chicken the other day and I smelled it and about lost it! YUCK! But since then I have not had any problems with chicken. I think it was just the cooked roasted chicken. I won't be eating that for a while.

Gender: Not sure

Labor Signs: None

Belly Button in or out? Innie

What I miss: Prime Rib, and Blue Moon

What I am looking forward to: My NT scan on Friday.

My Weight

Well I am still in the negative. I promise I am eating! I am eating what I want for the most part, just trying to be healthy. I steps on the scale this morning 3 times to make sure it was correct. 130.4 pounds. Thats means I am -.8 pounds from my starting weight. I am not concerned, my doctor said I should only gain about 10 pounds in the first 20 weeks and 25-35 total so I figure I am fine. The weight will come soon enough.

Tired, So Tired!

I thought that I was over the "sleeply" part but I guess not. I started work again on Wednesday and I am wiped out! I was at school until 4:00pm Wednesday, Thursday and 5:30pm today. I still have so much work to do! I moved classrooms so I am having to set everything up ugh! My back is killing me! I wish Mike was home to rub it. Ok complaining over, I am going to take the dogs for a walk and crawl into my nice wonderful bed!

11 Weeks (Yesterday)

Yesterday I moved on up to 11 weeks. I never thought I would love Monday, but I do! I haven't written in a few days but here's the major updates:

Mike and I scheduled our NT scan and blood work for Sept. 4th at 3:00pm. Our next OB appt. is on Sept 14th at 3:15 where I will be 14 weeks. I weighted myself on Saturday and I was 131.6 pounds. So I am up .4 lbs which is nothing. When I went to the doctors last weeks they said I was up 2.5 pounds but I think it must have been water weight. I am going by my weekly weight-in.

How far along: 11 weeks

Total weight gain/loss: As of Saturday up .4 pounds, not bad.

Sleep: I have noticed that if I wake up in the morning (either 4am when Mike gets up or 6am when I have to pee) if I don't eat something small I cannot go back to sleep.

Best moment this week: Enjoying my last few days of sleeping in before I am back to work tomorrow!

Movement: Nope

Food cravings: Nothing really, just hungry more often

Food aversions: Still not into grease/fast food. Which is a good thing!

Gender: Not sure

Labor Signs: None

Belly Button in or out? Innie

What I miss: Medium Rare steak!

What I am looking forward to: My NT scan next Friday.

Weekly Wisdom: Working out actually makes me feel better!

Milestones: I made it to 11 weeks!

How your baby's growing:
Your baby, just over 1 1/2 inches long and about the size of a fig, is now almost fully formed. Her hands will soon open and close into fists, tiny tooth buds are beginning to appear under her gums, and some of her bones are beginning to harden.

She's already busy kicking and stretching, and her tiny movements are so effortless they look like water ballet. These movements will become more frequent as her body grows and becomes more developed and functional. You won't feel your baby's acrobatics for another month or two — nor will you notice the hiccupping that may be happening now that her diaphragm is forming.

10 Week Appointment

Today I had my second OB visit. It was great! I got to hear the babies heartbeat (167bpm)and my OB went over everything that is going to happen over the next several months. The visit started with the usual peeing in a cup, getting weighted and then bam! The nurse told me to get naked (for my oh so wonderful pap) and she would be in to draw blood. I knew I was going to have to have blood drawn, but I had to have 6 vials taken!! Ugh! I guess I had better get used to it. They we discussed the NT scan. Mike and I have decided that having it done was a good idea. We would not end the pregnancy but we would like to be prepared. I am not overly concerned about the results, I am not over 35 and neither of us have a family history of disabilities. My next appointment is scheduled for Sept. 14th at 3:15pm

10 Weeks Today

Today I am 10 Weeks! It is so exciting to be in double digits. For some reason it makes me feel so much better. Wednesday I have my second appointment to hear the babies heartbeat. Unfortunately Mike cannot be there. He is working very hard for the baby by taking a trip to Wisconsin for work. But my mom is coming with me to the appointment and we plan on taking a video to send to Mike so he can hear it.

How far along: 10 weeks

Total weight gain/loss: As of Sunday up 1.3 pounds but I am blaming it on my sisters scale and my lack of being regular haha!

Sleep: Less tired, just a little in the afternoon, but not enough to really sleep which is good since I am going back to work next week!

Best moment this week: Got to go to Florida to visit my sister with my mom.

Movement: Nope

Food cravings: Nothing really, just hungry more often

Food aversions: I really thought I wanted pizza a few days ago, but when my sister ordered it and I took a piece is was not good! ugh

Gender: Not sure

Labor Signs: None

Belly Button in or out? Innie

What I miss: Real coffee! I have been down in Florida where my mom is making coffee every morning and I can just smell it and that's it. I have had a few decafs but it just isn't the same!

What I am looking forward to: Wednesday's doctor's appointment. We get to hear the heartbeat!

Weekly Wisdom: Hormones are beginning to rage! Poor Mike!!! I am so lucky he loves me.

Milestones: I made it to 10 weeks! The baby has officially graduated to a fetus!Double digits!!

How your baby's growing:
Though he's barely the size of a kumquat — a little over an inch or so long, crown to bottom — and weighs less than a quarter of an ounce, your baby has now completed the most critical portion of his development. This is the beginning of the so-called fetal period, a time when the tissues and organs in his body rapidly grow and mature.

He's swallowing fluid and kicking up a storm. Vital organs — including his kidneys, intestines, brain, and liver (now making red blood cells in place of the disappearing yolk sac) — are in place and starting to function, though they'll continue to develop throughout your pregnancy.

If you could take a peek inside your womb, you'd spot minute details, like tiny nails forming on fingers and toes (no more webbing) and peach-fuzz hair beginning to grow on tender skin.

In other developments: Your baby's limbs can bend now. His hands are flexed at the wrist and meet over his heart, and his feet may be long enough to meet in front of his body. The outline of his spine is clearly visible through translucent skin, and spinal nerves are beginning to stretch out from his spinal cord. Your baby's forehead temporarily bulges with his developing brain and sits very high on his head, which measures half the length of his body. From crown to rump, he's about 1 1/4 inches long. In the coming weeks, your baby will again double in size — to nearly 3 inches.

Weight Gain

It is offical I have gained weight, but only about a pound. I weighted myself this morning at my sisters house (so maybe it is because it is not my scale haha) and it was 132.5 so I am up 1.3 pounds from the BFP. I might re-weight myself on Tuesday when I get home on my scale or just say screw it and wait until next week. I have been eating like crap while here so I figure I will be back down when I get back home and back to my routine. That's it for now.

9 Weeks

How far along: 9 weeks

Total weight gain/loss: As of Saturday down .4 pounds

Sleep: Insomina is beginning! I am so tired but I am not sleeping as well.

Best moment this week: Seeing the heartbeat on Monday

Movement: Nope

Food cravings: Nothing really, just haungry more often

Food aversions: greasy food...yuck! Starts off good, but I regret it.

Gender: Not sure

Labor Signs: None

Belly Button in or out? Innie

What I miss: Blue Moon...still, I think I am going to request that in the delivery room!

What I am looking forward to: Going to visit my sister today for the week in Florida with my mom.

Weekly Wisdom: Being bloated sucks! I am ready for a cute bump!!

Milestones: I made it to 9 weeks!

How your baby's growing:
Your new resident is nearly an inch long — about the size of a grape — and weighs just a fraction of an ounce. She's starting to look more and more human. Her essential body parts are accounted for, though they'll go through plenty of fine-tuning in the coming months. Other changes abound: Your baby's heart finishes dividing into four chambers, and the valves start to form — as do her tiny teeth. The embryonic "tail" is completely gone. Your baby's organs, muscles, and nerves are kicking into gear. The external sex organs are there but won't be distinguishable as male or female for another few weeks. Her eyes are fully formed, but her eyelids are fused shut and won't open until 27 weeks. She has tiny earlobes, and her mouth, nose, and nostrils are more distinct. The placenta is developed enough now to take over most of the critical job of producing hormones. Now that your baby's basic physiology is in place, she's poised for rapid weight gain.

Weighting In

It is that day of the week...weighting in day. I thought for sure the scale was going to be higher this week and I would have my first real weight gain but when I checked (4 times haha) it was less! I was shocked! Ok here's the deal:

Hunger Pains

I have started to feel much more hungry the last few days. I am trying not to eat more than usual and if I eat something I am trying to be healthy but I am starting to feel hungry A LOT more!!

The worst part is I feel hungry the most at night after I am in bed. I will try and eat a few crackers or an apple right before bed but if I wake up during the night I feel like I haven't eaten in forever! I am starting to keep a lot more fruit in the house so at least if I am hungry I can eat something that is good for the baby and me but last night I did eat 3 shortbread cookies in bed and it was great! I am not looking forward to the weight in tomorrow, I have a feeling the scale is going to start moving up! Haha!!

We have a Heartbeat!!!

Mike and I are both so excited! Yesterday was our 8 week appointment and we had an ultrasound to see the heart beat. It was amazing!! I was so nervous going in, I was afraid something would be wrong, but as soon as I saw the heartbeat I felt so happy!

Based on yesterday's appointment our EDD is March 15, 2010. The heartbeat was nice and strong beating at 170 beats per minute and he/she measured at 1.71 cm. Our next appointment is on Aug. 19th. It will be a long appointment, about an hour where my Doctor will take 4 viles of blood, have an ultrasound to hear the heartbeat and tell me what to expect over the next several months. I can't wait.

Now it is all real! We are having a baby :)

Sundays....

So today is my first day back to work since my vacation. A double at the resturant, ugh!! I can't wait until I don't have to do this anymore. I went to bed nice and early and slept until 9:00am but I am already feeling like I could use a nap. I remember when Sundays were a day of rest....what happened to that? For the last 3 years I think I have had a handful of Sundays off. I hate Sundays.

On another note I did weight myself yesterday...131.6 pounds. So I am up +.4 pounds from my original weight. That is a glass of water. I can barely count that. I am pretty happy.

The only good thing I am finding about today is that I am closr to tomorrow! Tomorrow is mine and Mike's first appointment! YEAH!!! I am hoping we can hear or at least see the heartbeat. Right now I am not going to lie, I am alittle nervous. I am sure everything is fine, but I just can't wait until 11:30am tomorrow to be sure.

Ok, time to get ready to leave for work....boo! I will update after the appointment tomorrow!
